Environmental and sustainability issues are becoming more critical than ever in today’s world. The negative impact of human activities on our planet—manifested in problems like climate change, loss of biodiversity, and depletion of natural resources—demands urgent action. Here, the active involvement of young people plays a crucial role in addressing these challenges. This is where the Youth 4 Environment KA-220 Erasmus+ project, held in Strasbourg from May 10-18, stands out as a significant initiative aimed at raising environmental awareness and promoting sustainability among youth.
Organized in collaboration with the Turkish National Paralympic Committee, Let’s Do It Türkiye, and Marmara University, the project’s primary goal was to educate participants on environmental and sustainability issues using non-formal education methods. It aimed to draw attention to critical topics like climate change and global warming while empowering young people to make their voices heard in these discussions.
During my participation in this project, I acquired a wealth of new knowledge and skills related to environmental and sustainability issues. The workshops and training sessions offered a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application. For instance, through the En-Roads simulation, we had the opportunity to explore the impacts of global warming and how these effects can be mitigated. This simulation was particularly educational as it demonstrated how we can lead more sustainable lives by analyzing the measures we can take to combat climate change on both individual and societal levels.
The project not only fostered environmental awareness but also promoted cultural exchange. Working alongside participants from different countries allowed us to improve our foreign language skills and gain new cultural perspectives. This diversity highlighted the importance of collaboration in solving global problems.
Networking was another key aspect of the project. Meeting and collaborating with professionals working in the field of environmental sustainability provided a significant opportunity for young people considering a career in this area. Additionally, the knowledge and experiences gained during the project laid a solid foundation that will guide our future efforts in this field.
In conclusion, the Youth 4 Environment KA-220 Erasmus+ project held in Strasbourg was an invaluable experience that raised awareness among young people about environmental and sustainability issues and encouraged their active participation in these areas. Such projects are crucial in nurturing hope for the future, equipping young people with the knowledge and skills they need, and empowering them to take an active role in solving environmental problems. Increasing youth participation in projects like these is one of the most effective steps we can take to protect our future and ensure a sustainable world.
